General
The Technics SL-1200GAE is an exceptional edition of the Technics SL-1200G. Worldwide, only 1,200 of these turntables have been issued, each adorned with a numbered badge. Of course that's not all that distinguishes the GAE edition from the 'regular' SL-1200G; unlike the latter, the former has a magnesium tonearm. And what's more important, the classic heritage of this Technics turntable certainly shines through.
The SLA-1200GAE: features and functions
Just like the classic Technics SL-1200 - the holy grail of turntablism - the SL-1200GAE has all the features a turntable purist, audiophile or DJ could possibly wish for. +/-8% pitch control (with a clear LED indicator for zero), adjustable speed (33, 45 or 78 RPM), a sizeable start/stop button and a strobe; it's all at your disposal.
Construction
Technics is not a manufacturer that would feel comfortable issuing a new turntable that was nearly identical to its predecessor. In other words, the SL-1200GAE boasts a number of improvements, including a platter made of aluminium and brass with a rubber finish. Additionally, an advanced system of microprocessors and sensors is present to prevent cogging, a problem caused by tiny motor vibrations and rotational speed fluctuations. With the SL-1200GAE, cogging won't get a chance to affect your audio quality, allowing you to fully enjoy the characteristic sound of your vinyl collection.
