General

Pioneer's second-generation DJM-900NXS2-W DJ mixer is the best of the best. This Limited Edition club standard, is chock full of updates including a double audio interface so you can run two laptops and a 64-bit mixing processor. The familiar layout has remained unchanged, and thanks to a number of innovative extra features, the NXS2 is ready to take on anything!

DJM-900NXS2-W new features

The double audio interface on the DJM 900 Nexus 2 W is just one of the new features this device has to offer. This is handy when two DJs are doing Back-2-Back sets, or to allow the following DJ to hook up their gear for a smooth transition when the current DJ is done performing. Furthermore, the effects section on the DJM-900NXS2-W has been thoroughly revamped. The well-known X-Pad on the right-hand side has been replaced with a touch screen display and the Beat FX display is now a compact OLED screen. This frees up space for a special USB send/return, located at the top right, so you can add effects with an iPad (InterApp support). The most remarkable feature is the FX Frequency, which enables you to assign effects per channel as well as per frequency band! This means you can add a flanger to the vocals (high tones) on one track, or add a roll effect to the bass line (low tones) on another. The creative possibilities for unique transitions and mixes are endless! No matter how you tweak your sound, the 64-bit mixing processor ensures natural, warm, detailed audio.

Subtle extras

The DJM900NXS2W is equipped with various new functions that are designed to make your life as a DJ a little easier. The headphone output is available for both mini jack and jack plugs, and there's an LED indicator that shows which effects are active on a specific channel. Furthermore, the layout surrounding the crossfader has been reorganised to enhance your workflow. The Mono/Stereo switch for the master signal has been removed, as well as the fader start assignment, as most DJs use Pro DJ Link to link their players to the mixer.

Standard Pioneer layout and functionality

The Pioneer DJM-900NXS2-W has a standard 4-channel layout with input selector, trim, 3-band EQ, Color FX, Cue, fader and crossfader assignment, with microphone functionality on the left and the master fader plus settings control on the right. At the far right, you'll find the effects section that can be combined with the Sound Color FX, which has been integrated in a 3x2 matrix on the left and can be assigned directly to the channel of your choice. On the rear, there are a number of inputs and outputs, including phono/line for the four mix channels, an effect send/return for external effects devices, a network connection for Pro DJ Link and of course, the necessary outputs for master and booth signals. The NXS2 in white has the same exact dimensions as its counterpart in black, so finding a suitable flight case should be no problem. For the best results possible, combine this device with the limited-edition CDJ-2000NXS2-W!

Housing and finish

The DJM-900NXS2-W is a rugged piece of equipment that can be used for intensive use on the road. It features a sturdy aluminium construction that can withstand shocks and bumps. The DJM-900NXS2-W has a separate plateau for the fader section, which makes replacing faders or crossfaders easier than ever. The mixer features a slanted front panel for easy, seamless use in combination with the CDJ-2000NXS or CDJ-2000NXS2-W.

NAMM 2016: RCF and dB Technologies Present Spin-Off Mixars

Thursday 21 January 2016 By Lizanne

The last couple weeks, we've only seen online teasers of the new brand, Mixars. Apparently, the brain behind this company is in Italy at dB Technologies! Yes, that's right. dB Technologies is known for a countless number of smooth-sounding active loud speakers. It's therefore pretty remarkable that this brand is announcing their debut in a time where the DJ market seems pretty over-saturated as it is. It's been years since a serious DJ brand appeared out of nowhere, and the Italians sure seems determined to succeed with their entry-level product range and is ready to take on some heavy competition.
