Orange's Getaway Driver is an effects pedal that is best described as a '70s amp in a box. It adds a vintage vibe to all amps, excelling on clean channels in particular and is great as a clean boost too. A Class A JFET circuit is used for the Getaway Driver's gain structure, just like a real tube amplifier.

Getaway Driver

The Getaway Driver has two outputs: one for your guitar amp and another that functions as a cab sim or headphone amp. This means you can connect the pedal to a mixer or PA (via a DI box, not included) or directly into a recording interface. When the pedal is powered by 9V it gives a sound similar to an EL84 tube but it's also capable of running on 12V which gives it more of an EL34 tube sound.

Orange staat bekend om zijn versterkers met karakteristieke overdrive. Dit geluid wilde ik graag toevoegen aan mijn eigen setup, zonder van versterker te hoeven wisselen. Met dit pedaal is dat goed gelukt. Het is een amp-in-a-box, wat wil zeggen dat er een pre-amp circuit in zit. Dat merk je aan het feit dat er heel veel volume beschikbaar is. Je kunt je versterker helemaal over de kop draaien als je wil en dan hebben we het nog niet eens over de gain, die gaat van crunchy tot bijna fuzz.
Het is overigens wel de moeite waard om zowel een 9V als 12V voeding te proberen. Ik vind hem op 12V net wat warmer en ronder klinken.
De cabsim is een leuke gimmick, maar naar mijn idee niet echt bruikbaar. Het beste geluid krijg je door dit pedaal voor een cleane versterker te zetten.
Als je dus op zoek bent naar die Orange crunch in combinatie met je eigen versterker is dit een goede optie.

Positief:
- Lekker gelaagd geluid
- Mooi design
- Keuze uit 9V (bright) en 12V (warmer)

Negatief:
- Abnormaal veel ruimte op het volume (staat bij mij bijna minimaal)
- Cabsim voegt niet echt iets toe
- Neemt vrij veel ruimte in op je board

Wat een enorm krachtig pedaal.
Het werkt het beste op je clean channel maar ook als booster en overdrive doet hij het erg goed.
Geeft een rock toon tot zelf ( met bv. een tube screamer , metal )
De hoofdtelefoon functie is leuk maar het geluid is eerder gewoontjes ondanks de cab simulation functie.

Stevig gebouwd en ziet er goed uit is dit pedaal een voorlopige blijver op mijn pedalenbord.
En voor de prijs moet je het ook al niet laten.

Let ook even op de verpakking ! Zelden zo een mooie presentatie gezien . Een doosje in een doosje (zwart,prachtig bedrukt ) met zelfs een quality control kaartje.

Gekocht in Goes waar ik het pedaal ongestoord kon testen op divers materiaal.
