General
This Sony XDR-S60DBP digital radio with DAB+ and FM reception has an attractive classic design. DAB+ - which stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting+ and has replaced 'regular' DAB - is the successor of the analogue FM technology. It offers a crystal-clear sound and is much less prone to interference than analogue radio signals. Additionally, digital radio stations require less space in the ether, opening up room for other stations, so there are more to choose from. Of course, listening to FM radio is also still possible with the XDR-S60DBP, thanks to its telescopic antenna. This mobile, compact radio runs on the mains power or three (rechargeable) C batteries and can easily be taken with you.
Push & turn
The XDR-S60DBp is equipped with a single speaker with a 4-inch/10.2cm diameter and 1 watt of power. As such, it produces mono audio, but if you connect a pair of headphones to the 3.5mm jack output you're able to enjoy stereo sound as well. The volume can be adjusted by means of a large knob on the side of the radio, and a similar dial on the front panel allows you to browse radio stations, information and settings on the white-lit LCD display. The front panel is also fitted with a number of buttons that operate, among other things, the DAB+/FM selection and auto tuning function. The top of the digital Sony radio is equipped with an on/off button and with five preset buttons that can be assigned to your favourite radio stations.
Benefits compared to analogue radio
DAB+ is the logical sequel to analogue FM technology, and succeeds its predecessor DAB. Digital radio has many benefits compared to its analogue counterpart. DAB+ frees up a lot of space in the ether, as a single digital radio station requires much less space than an analogue station. As such, many radio stations that were previously only available via cable or Internet radio can now be heard via DAB+. DAB+ is already used in several countries world-wide, particularly in Europe. Another great advantage of DAB+ is the fact that radio stations can include a lot of information in their signals, such as details about tracks and shows. For FM radio stations, the Sony XDR-S60DBP can also receive RDS information.
