General

Behringer's XR18 is an impressively complete rack mixer with no fewer than 16 microphone inputs and eight separate outputs. It can also be used as an audio interface, making it a great choice for studio and mobile recordings. You can easily control it via a smart phone, tablet or computer, and it even has its own Wi-Fi access point built-in so you can connect automatically. Furthermore, it has no fewer than four internal stereo FX processors (eight mono!) so you can make use of an impressive collection of classic effects.

Behringer X Air XR18: Great for demanding technicians

A big, heavy, cumbersome multi-cable won't be necessary with the XR18. It's compatible with iOS and Android, and it can also be used with Mac, Linux and PC, whether you want to connect via wireless internet of a LAN network. There's enough processing power to equip every input signal with a separate gate, 4-band EQ and a compressor. Furthermore, each output channel can be equipped with a 6-band EQ, a compressor and a 31-band EQ. When you use the rack for recording you can use these effects and the built-in FX processor slots in real time. The effects won't affect your computer's CPU either because they work on the internal DSP of the X Air XR18.

XR18: Overview

The sixteen microphone inputs are equipped with real Midas preamps. Midas is known for producing professional mixing consoles that are used in many large-scale productions. The XR18 also has a MIDI input and output so you can connect your MIDI controller directly, so you can easily control the mixer via the Mackie HUI protocol and there's a USB on-board for recording audio to an iPad, for example. Finally, rack mounts are included in the purchase so you can safely use the XR18 in a rack.

Having played with this for for a few months in my home studio set up I can't fault it. It's a solid USB 18x18 interface, great for mixing DAW playbacks and live inputs. It doesn't take long to get around the XAIR app but like others have said ( and for reliable gig use) I use an external router connected to the XR18 as it allows simultaneous wired and wireless device connection. The six aux sends allow 3 separate stereo mixes out plus the headphone mix out, enough for most gigging bands I suspect. Dump it on the stage and forget you're old snake. Sit back with your tablet and phone(s) and mix away.

There are so many benefits to digital mixers, speed of set up, extensive quality effects, portability to name a few. The Beringer xr18 is such good value for money that it actually makes me feel sorry for other mixers. At this price point alone the quality preamps would've been enough to seal the deal! I also now record nearly every gig I do as a fringe benefit!. Amazing bit of gear.

Brilliant live mixer, so many features for such a small package. The built in wifi struggles on larger events but with the Ethernet connection an external router is easily added.

This is a great interface, even for a novice it’s easy to use and intuitive. Having read lots of reviews about the connection being tempromental, I haven’t experienced this and it seems to work exactly as described. The controls on the software are extensive and Easy to use.

Great product. The PC app is great for most of the settings, but I prefer the Android app for the EQ settings because it simultaneously shows the active levels when playing music. I had some difficulties with connecting the Mix Rack to my home network via the Wifi Client mode using the 5.0 GHz band, but worked fine with the 2.4 GHz.

For live performance I will probably use the Network cable option because one of my laptops has an Ethernet connection option.

Een bijzonder handige en veelzijdige mixer in combinatie met mijn tablet. Goede prijs/kwaliteitsverhouding. Vraag me alleen af waarom hij afgelopen week 15% duurder is geworden.

Wauw!
