While many dream of becoming a fully paid-up producer or musician, access to a good DAW can make that dream a reality. Lest we forget, no more than forty years ago you'd have to take out a hefty loan to get your hands on the gear involved, but now, you can tuck into one potent slice of software that sets you up with everything you need to write, play with virtual instruments and hone mixes using virtual effects - and all at a fraction of the price. One such slice of software is the ever popular Bitwig Studio - which you might know as a more grown-up version of the entry-level package that comes with a lot of controllers and MIDI keyboards.

What Comes with Bitwig Studio?

This is the fifth edition of Bitwig Studio, and while some changes have been made, including some bug fixes and little tweaks, this package still has the neat modular-style system as the much-loved versions that came before it. This system doesn't just make Bitwig easy to navigate and use, but means that everything can be linked together. So if you want to do something nuts like link the master-fader with an LFO, it's actually possible! Instruments and effects can be treated in exactly the same way, opening up the creative boundaries and giving producers and musicians more than enough space to play around in. And when it comes to compositions there's no track limit, so every idea can be laid down, no matter how big it gets.

• Students and teaching personnel from a government-approved educational institution (not necessarily audio-related) are eligible for this educational edition (EDU) only. A copy of a valid student or educator ID is required. Once the purchase has been made, you will need to take the following steps to complete verification:
  • 1. Make a user account at www.bitwig.com, using the same e-mail address as is found on your student ID.
  • 2. Email your proof of purchase (reference number) and a copy of your valid student/teacher ID to customer-service@bax-shop.co.uk
  • 3. A member of our Helpdesk will confirm your student/teacher status with Bitwig within approximately 2 working days.
  • 4. As soon as your student/teacher status has been confirmed, your Bitwig Studio license will be activated under your Bitwig user account and you will receive a confirmation via email.
