Sabian is one of the most famous cymbal manufacturers in the world. The company was founded in 1981 by Robert Zildjian, when his older brother became the head of the Zildjian company. Armed with a lifetime of knowledge and experience, he started over and created a company named after his three children, Sally, Bill and Andy (SaBiAn). Over time, Sabian grew into the respected company it is today, and now belongs to what has been dubbed 'the big four', along with Zildjian, Paiste and Meinl.

Today, Sabian is known for their innovative cymbals, and the AAX line is what started it all. Like the AA-series, it consists of machine-made B20 bronze cymbals. The AAX series, however, receives very different hammering and lathing treatments, resulting in a very different sound. It also features the exclusive Auto-Focus Response feature. Where other cymbals have a 'response threshold', meaning they sound best once they reach a certain volume, AAX cymbals respond with total accuracy at all dynamic levels, from low to high volumes. This set consists of a hi-hat, crash and ride from the AAX Stage line, which have all been sonically matched to complement each other perfectly.

First of all, this pack contains the 14-inch AAX Stage Hi-hats. These consist of a medium top and a heavy bottom cymbal. This pair of hi-hats is extremely responsive and has a crisp, clean sound when closed and opens up nicely into a bright, sparkling wash. The heavy bottom cymbal gives these Stage Hats plenty of volume, though they will cut through the mix at any volume.

Secondly, the 16-inch AAX X-plosion Crash offers a cutting sound with an explosive attack. This responsive cymbal is great for use on stage, as it has a rich yet bright sound with plenty of high-end frequencies. It is suitable for a wide range of dynamic levels and a great many musical styles.

And finally, the 20-inch AAX Stage Ride is an excellent all-round cymbal. It is very well balanced as it has excellent stick definition, with a bright, clearly audible ping and a great tone, and it also gives you great control over the amount of wash it produces.
