General

Crashes are available in many shapes and sizes, and every brand has its own product developers who keep looking for the next great addition to their assortment of cymbals. Take Meinl, for instance. Some time ago, they introduced the Byzance series, which consists of cymbals that are completely hand-crafted. This 18-inch Vintage Crash is part of that series, and features a beautiful, sand-blasted finish, giving it a slightly matted look that really shows off the hammer marks. Making these cymbals is quite a laborious process, but the resulting product looks great and sounds even better.

Meinl Byzance B18VC

Sand-blasting the cymbals affects more than just their look, obviously impacting their sound, as well. It gives them a drier sound that is deep, warm and has a rich timbre, with a buttery, smooth attack, rather than an aggressive, cutting one. Those characteristics work extremely well with the 18-inch Vintage Crash's body and sustain. Finally, the hand-crafted nature of these cymbals gives every individual product its own unique sound. No two cymbals sound exactly the same, which is perfect for drummers who are looking for a sound that is completely their own.

Veel ervaring met verschillende Byzance cymbals. De vintage serie alleen als trash/crash. Qua reguliere crash viel deze mij nogal tegen. Een vrij blikkerig geluid, dat mij deed denken aan een goedkope cymbal van een speelgoeddrumstel. Het geld, wat mij betreft niet waard. Ik heb meer met de Jazz of traditional serie van Byzance.
