General
A compressor pedal, such as this one, allows you to adjust the signal's sustain and response. Increase sustain by opening up the compression control and go from a sharp, metal sound to round and soft using the attack knob. The emphasis allows you to pick the frequencies you want to compress yourself, treble or bass frequencies, for example. Additionally, the pedal also has a volume control.
