General

When you're in need of high-quality compression with a natural response that adds hardly any colour to your sound, expands the dynamic range and reduces noise, simply deploy the DSM & Humboldt ClearComp 1078 pedal. This is essentially a dynamic threshold compressor with a lower noise floor and a threshold with fixed gain reduction and, using the three-way Threshold switch, this pedal can even be adjusted to match the output of your guitar or bass, while the cool multicoloured LED strip just above it displays the envelope level. Dial everything in via a familiar set of control pots and dictate the compression, the release, ratio, attack and even the blend of the clean bypass sound and the compressed sound.

Dit is een pedaalversie van een studio compressor, is dus wennen voor gitaristen die hiermee geen ervaring hebben. Werkt heel goed op gitaar, je kan chirurgisch tweaken en een perfect balans vinden tussen compressed en dry mix. Vaak lees ik dat bassisten ervaren dat het laag verdund wordt met deze Clearcomp, het is zo dat de klank helderder wordt door een hogere definitie in het klankbeeld (zeker op gitaar) waardoor het instrument meer in de mix uitstraalt. M.a.w. minder wollig (boomy) en veel meer detail. Dit vind ik persoonlijk heel fijn. Deze werd vergeleken met de Effectrode LA-1A die het iets beter doet maar is van vergelijkbare kwaliteit. Ook vergeleken met Mad Professor Forest Green en EQD Warden V2 die toch wel iets anders klinken maar vergelijkbaar zijn qua kwaliteit. Zeer goede compressor maar mss niet voor iedereen geschikt, daarom slechts 4 sterren!
