General

At the beginning of this century, VOX introduced their Valvetronix amplifiers that combined digital modelling with an authentic, warm tube sound. They proved to be enormously popular. The series featured amplifiers with outputs from 20 to 100 watts. This VOX VT100X amp is the flagship of the next generation of Valvetronix amplifiers. In particular, the modelling technology has come on leaps and bounds in comparison to the earlier models. The new Virtual Element Technology (or VET for short) goes further than ever before. Instead of simply attempting to reproduce the sound of legendary amps, the new technology also recreates the way these amps react. The result is as impressive as the volume on this versatile powerhouse.

Valvetronix 2.0

Since the introduction of the first Valvetronix amps, digital modelling technology has improved significantly. The new VTX amplifiers aren't just keeping up with the competition, they are setting the pace. Despite the numerous possibilities, the VT100X is intuitive to use. With VOX's Tone Room editing software, it's possible to dive down deep in to the settings and tweak the tubes. With all the options, it's unlikely that you'll ever get bored with the sounds this amp can produce. While its 100-watt output is loud enough for live performances, the amp is still compact enough that it won't get in your way at home. Unlike full tube amplifiers, the VT100X still sounds amazing even at a civilised volume. For practising quietly at home, there is even a headphone socket.

An evolutionary leap

At the beginning of this century, VOX revolutionised the guitar amp world with its Valvetronix technology. It combined a hybrid amp (analogue with a tube in the preamp) with the latest digital modelling technology available at the time. This resulted in amplifiers that sounded very realistic and warm. Many manufacturers followed where VOX led. They quickly realised, however, that there was more to it than just placing a tube in the preamp. While VOX's Valvetronix amplifiers went on to become extremely popular, many manufacturers simply stopped producing hybrid amps. The VOX VTX series still has the renowned Valvetronix circuit in place. The modelling technology has been completely overhauled, however, to incorporate the latest techniques. With the new VTX series VOX is once again ahead of the competition.

The VOX VTX Series - Evolution Accelerated

Wednesday 4 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

It's already been more than 10 years since VOX turned the amplifier world on its head with the Valvetronix series. This series of amps combined digital modelling technology with convincing tube sounds. Since then, models have slowly but steadily improved along with digital technology. Now however, the time is ripe for VOX to introduce another series that, rather than show another slow and steady improvement, offer something more like evolution accelerated. Meet the VT20X, the VT40X and the VT100X, the first three models from the new series.

The Blackstar Artist Series: Classic and Versatile

Monday 2 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

Blackstar has gone from a newcomer to an established name in a short space of time. One of their greatest assets is the Infinite Shape Feature or ISF circuit (as it's otherwise known) that they developed themselves. With the ISF circuit, Blackstar managed to greatly increase the versatility of tube amplifiers without the use of digital technology. The new Artist 15 and Artist 30 models both have an ISF circuit fitted and can produce the typical American 6L6 sound, as well as beloved British AC clean and crunch.
