General

This 2x12 inch two-channel combo comes crammed with a mass of digital effects alongside a tasty batch of functions and options, planting it right at the head of the Line 6 Catalyst Series. 200 Watts of power supports more than enough output in the rehearsal room or on stage, and to ensure outstanding gig and studio-worthy sound, a direct-out XLR port has been provided on the rear panel. But, of course, that's far from everything: the Line 6 Catalyst 200 has also been furnished with an attenuator that can be dialled back to lower the output during practise sessions and smaller shows, and a 4-in/4-out audio interface has been built in for seamless home-studio integration.

The Line 6 Catalyst 200 Combo: In-Depth Control

At the core, you get six amplifier voicings courtesy of HX® sound design technology, that can flip from clean, to boutique, to high-gain within seconds. The sound can then be rinsed, chewed, and warped by a broad array of reverb, delay, modulation, and pitch effects, which can be expanded even further using the free Catalyst Edit desktop and mobile app. Any external stompboxes can be linked through the FX loop, where the Return port doubles as a power amp input to set up the Catalyst as an active speaker. In short, it really doesn't get more extensive than this.

The Blackstar Artist Series: Classic and Versatile

Monday 2 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

Blackstar has gone from a newcomer to an established name in a short space of time. One of their greatest assets is the Infinite Shape Feature or ISF circuit (as it's otherwise known) that they developed themselves. With the ISF circuit, Blackstar managed to greatly increase the versatility of tube amplifiers without the use of digital technology. The new Artist 15 and Artist 30 models both have an ISF circuit fitted and can produce the typical American 6L6 sound, as well as beloved British AC clean and crunch.

Wednesday 4 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

It's already been more than 10 years since VOX turned the amplifier world on its head with the Valvetronix series. This series of amps combined digital modelling technology with convincing tube sounds. Since then, models have slowly but steadily improved along with digital technology. Now however, the time is ripe for VOX to introduce another series that, rather than show another slow and steady improvement, offer something more like evolution accelerated. Meet the VT20X, the VT40X and the VT100X, the first three models from the new series.
