General

Even today, the 1950s Fender Bassman is considered the 'granddad' of all guitar amps. Thanks to its simplicity, tone variation, and the broad dynamic range of its warm tube sound, it is still a very popular amplifier. Fender continued to develop these tweed amps in the '60s with the Brown, Blonde, and Blackface models. Their Bassbreaker series continues that tradition in the form of a parallel evolution in which the original Fender DNA has been significantly modified. This is the compact 007 Head Combo in Grey Tweed.

Bassbreaker 007 Combo: full sound

Fender's Bassbreaker 007 Combo owes its sound to two 12AX7 preamp tubes and a single EL84 power tube, in combination with a 10-inch Celestion Ten Thirty speaker. In addition to a standard three-band equalizer, it also features a treble boost for extra gain and even richer harmonics, allowing you a smooth transition from clean tones to a powerful overdrive. The high-gain settings on the 007 won't mask the dynamics or identity of your playing either.

The Fender Bassbreaker: widely versatile

Think you can tame one of Fender's newest and wildest beasts? From Dave Navarro to Mark Hoppus, from Rob Ackroyd to Simon Neil, they all agree that these tube amps offer a full, warm sound and incredible versatility. Whether you're a session musician in the studio or a live performer on stage, the Bassbreaker is capable of giving you anything from clean tones to a monster overdrive.

The Blackstar Artist Series: Classic and Versatile

Monday 2 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

Blackstar has gone from a newcomer to an established name in a short space of time. One of their greatest assets is the Infinite Shape Feature or ISF circuit (as it's otherwise known) that they developed themselves. With the ISF circuit, Blackstar managed to greatly increase the versatility of tube amplifiers without the use of digital technology. The new Artist 15 and Artist 30 models both have an ISF circuit fitted and can produce the typical American 6L6 sound, as well as beloved British AC clean and crunch.

The VOX VTX Series - Evolution Accelerated

Wednesday 4 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

It's already been more than 10 years since VOX turned the amplifier world on its head with the Valvetronix series. This series of amps combined digital modelling technology with convincing tube sounds. Since then, models have slowly but steadily improved along with digital technology. Now however, the time is ripe for VOX to introduce another series that, rather than show another slow and steady improvement, offer something more like evolution accelerated. Meet the VT20X, the VT40X and the VT100X, the first three models from the new series.

NAMM 2016: Hot Additions to Blues Cube Series by Roland

Wednesday 20 January 2016 By Lizanne

Renowned instrument colossus Roland first introduced their Blues Cube amplifiers back in the 1990's. The idea was simply to program a transistor amp to sound like a tube amp. Now, more than twenty years down the line, they've perfected that idea. The result is the brand-new Blues Cube Hot: a portable 3-watt combo in Black and Vintage Blond.
