Kicking off 2023 with a bang, EVH drop the Iconic Series 5150 60-Watt stereo combo so you can get your hands on that famed 'brown sound' without paying the earth. Developed with the help of expert amp builder James Brown, this already-iconic combo comes loaded with two 12-inch EVH Celestion® Custom speakers and is driven by a matched pair of 6L6 power amp tubes plus two ECC83 (12AX7) preamp tubes. As such, both crystal-clear cleans and scorching, Van Halen-approved distortion is a given, especially since both channels feature an extra voicing that can be simply called up by pushing the Channel 2 Burn button or by hitting the Overdrive button for Channel 1.

Classic Red and Green Channels with Shared EQ and Noise Gate

The two channels of the 5150 Iconic combo come with individual gain and volume controls so both can be accurately dialled in, while the EQ controls (Low, Mid and High) are shared and the built-in noise gate keeps excessive noise and hum at bay so your guitar always sounds as natural as possible. You also get a master reverb and resonance pot for reining in the lows and highs, plus a power attenuation switch for limiting the output to 25% - an ever-useful feature for late-night practice sessions. Lastly, using the included footswitch, you can effortlessly trigger a +10dB boost to push your solos right through the mix when you finally get up on stage.

Wrote the following about EVH 5150 Iconic Series Ivory 60W 2x12 Combo Valve Guitar Amplifier

Wat een gaaf ding! Heb deze nu een week in huis en ben er echt super blij mee. Echt het Eddie van Halen geluid in huis gehaald (waar ik enorm fan van ben)
De cleans zijn echt heel mooi clean als ik dat wil. Als ik bij het cleane kanaal de gain vol open zet, komt er een mooi rauw randje aan het geluid. En de overdrive switch op kanaal 1 en kanaal 2 in zijn algemeenheid geven natuurlijk een enorme hoeveelheid distortion. Alles mooi in te stellen zoals ik het wil hebben. Heb hem nog niet uitgeprobeerd met effecten, komt nog wel. Vond het al ontzettend mooi zonder effectpedaal.
De noise gate neemt heel was hiss geluiden weg en de reverb is van een type "spring" en is behoorlijk aanwezig als je die al half open draait.

Tof ook dat deze een XLR uitgang heeft. Heb er al wat mee opgenomen en dat klinkt echt super.

Heb heel lang zitten twijfelen over de 40 watt versie en uiteindelijk niet gedaan en gekozen voor de Marshall DSL40CR, vanwege het 6 button pedaal wat je daarbij kunt kopen. En dus een 4 kanaals versterker hebt. Maar toen ik zag dat deze EVH met 2 12 inch speakers kwam, kon ik de verleiding niet meer weerstaan en heb deze erbij gekocht. En daar heb ik totaal geen spijt van. Wat een gaaf ding! Ga deze in mijn setup binnenkort combineren met de Marshall voor hopelijk het ultieme geluid.

Als er dan toch nadelen genoemd moeten worden, dan zijn dit ze. Ook al vind ik ze niet opwegen tegen de voordelen van het geweldige geluid en omdat ik nu iets van Eddie van Halen in huis heb.
- Hij is zwaar, 30 KG. En het is een log ding om de trap op te tillen. Maar dat weet je voordat je hem koopt en heeft mij dus niet tegen gehouden. Er zitten trouwens wieltjes bij. Helemaal geweldig. Ik rij hem als ik ga oefenen op een mooi plekje en als ik klaar ben rol ik hem weer in de hoek.
- Gelijk ook een voordeel, maar hij kan ontzettend hard. Heb hem tot nu toe alleen gebruikt in de 15 watt modus en volume op 3 is al oorverdovend hard. Met volume net onder de 2 is het ook al hard, maar nog enigszins "buur- en oor vriendelijk". Zal waarschijnlijk komen doordat het 2 speakers zijn, dat die sneller "te hard" staat.

De bezorging door Bax was ook super netjes. Netjes ingepakt in een Bax doos. Hij kwam met een vrachtwagen van DHL Cargo en dat is echt supernetjes gegaan. De bezorger hielp mij ook nog even met het over de drempel tillen en de zware doos in huis zetten. Kwam op een pallet wat de bezorger weer netjes mee nam en de doos zag er uit zoals die waarschijnlijk uit Goes vertrokken is. Kon er niks op ontdekken qua beschadiging, echt top! Heel anders dan wanneer hier iets van Bax komt met de normale DHL, dan zit de doos bijna altijd vol deuken, scheuren of gaten. Ik had er dus ook een hard hoofd in toen ik zag dat DHL deze zware versterker ging bezorgen. Maar gelukkig bleek het bij DHL Cargo geen ruig volk te zijn en gaan ze daar wel netjes om met de pakketjes, in tegenstelling tot de normale DHL.
