General

The combo version of the ENGL RockMaster 20 has a lot of admirers. It has double the power of its predecessor—40 watts, to be exact, meaning that you'll get more than enough volume for small to medium-sized gigs. Because the power can be adjusted in steps, it also makes a great amp for practising at home, even if you've got flatmates. Thanks to the emulated speaker out, the RockMaster is also an excellent studio companion.

Controls and sound

While the MetalMaster series is intended for the heavy stuff, the ENGL RockMasters were designed for classic rock aficionados. Get your sparkling cleans from the clean channel, or use it to conjur up a growling edge by cranking up the gain. The gain channel picks up where the clean channel leaves off, and goes from a growling edge to heavy distortion. Add mid-boost and a master volume knob to the mix, and you've got a wide range of rock sounds at your disposal.

Speaker and connectors

This combo is equipped with a 12-inch, 8-ohm Celestion Super 65 speaker that does both clean and overdrive sounds justice. Your can connect you favourite effects via the FX loops, and if your sound needs more body, you can always hook up an additional speaker cabinet. If you'd like to be able to easily turn the reverb on/off and switch between channels while you play, then have a look at the optional ENGL foot switch. Finally, despite the nice dose of power and the 12-inch speaker, this amp has been kept relatively compact, making it the perfect choice for anyone who wants a portable classic rock sound!

ENGL E312 RockMaster 40 40W tube guitar amp combo
Wrote the following about ENGL E312 RockMaster 40 40W tube guitar amp combo

ENGL Doubles the Power of the Master Series

Tuesday 8 March 2016 By Julie Alexander

The first ENGL MetalMaster and RockMaster 20 amplifiers enjoyed great popularity, thought they didn't quite quench guitarists' thirst for even more power. Once the ENGL technician's caught wind of the requests, they were only too happy to comply, and have recently released their response in the form of the 40W MetalMaster and RockMaster. You can get either model as an amp head or a combo.

The Blackstar Artist Series: Classic and Versatile

Monday 2 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

Blackstar has gone from a newcomer to an established name in a short space of time. One of their greatest assets is the Infinite Shape Feature or ISF circuit (as it's otherwise known) that they developed themselves. With the ISF circuit, Blackstar managed to greatly increase the versatility of tube amplifiers without the use of digital technology. The new Artist 15 and Artist 30 models both have an ISF circuit fitted and can produce the typical American 6L6 sound, as well as beloved British AC clean and crunch.

The VOX VTX Series - Evolution Accelerated

Wednesday 4 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

It's already been more than 10 years since VOX turned the amplifier world on its head with the Valvetronix series. This series of amps combined digital modelling technology with convincing tube sounds. Since then, models have slowly but steadily improved along with digital technology. Now however, the time is ripe for VOX to introduce another series that, rather than show another slow and steady improvement, offer something more like evolution accelerated. Meet the VT20X, the VT40X and the VT100X, the first three models from the new series.

Wednesday 20 January 2016 By Lizanne

Renowned instrument colossus Roland first introduced their Blues Cube amplifiers back in the 1990's. The idea was simply to program a transistor amp to sound like a tube amp.
