General

The ENGL E302 RockMaster 20 Combo is a compact guitar tube amp based on the popular GigMaster 15. This model, however, is voiced specifically for producing that classic rock sound; even a grey control panel and speaker cloth were chosen for an attractive vintage look that would match the sound. The E302 RockMaster 20 Combo is equipped with two switchable channels powered by two ECC83 preamp tubes. Two EL84 power tubes are responsible for driving the 10-inch Celestion G10N-40 speaker with 20 watts of power. The cherry on top of the ENGL RockMaster is the inclusion of switchable digital reverb.

ENGL E302 RockMaster 20 Combo: operation and sound

The control panel consists of 8 chicken-head knobs, two switches, two buttons, and an input jack - all of which can be found on the stylish grey front panel. The clean channel has a gain control (volume) so you can adjust your sound from sparkling clean to nice and edgy. To the right of that is the lead gain, which offers anything from rock crunch to screaming hard rock leads. Both channels share a 3-band EQ and a mid-boost function, which is perfect for helping solos cut through the mix. Thanks to the master volume control, you can adjust the total volume of the amplifier without having to adjust the volume balance between the clean and lead channels.

Integrated Power Soak and versatile connectors

You'll find the built-in Power Soak function on the back of the ENGL E302 RockMaster 20 Combo. This allows you to lower the power from 20 W to 5 W or even 1 W, so you get the same tube overdrive and dynamics at lower volumes. You can also switch off the speaker during recording by using the speaker simulation via the line output. An FX loop makes it easy to connect your favourite effects pedals and/or processors, and you can get even more sound by adding optional 1x 8, 1x 16 of 2x 8-ohm speaker cabinets. Finally, if you add the two optional foot switches or the ENGL Z-4 to the mix, you can control the channels, reverb, mid-boost and FX loop from a distance while you play.

ENGL Doubles the Power of the Master Series

Tuesday 8 March 2016 By Julie Alexander

The first ENGL MetalMaster and RockMaster 20 amplifiers enjoyed great popularity, thought they didn't quite quench guitarists' thirst for even more power. Once the ENGL technician's caught wind of the requests, they were only too happy to comply, and have recently released their response in the form of the 40W MetalMaster and RockMaster. You can get either model as an amp head or a combo.

The Blackstar Artist Series: Classic and Versatile

Monday 2 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

Blackstar has gone from a newcomer to an established name in a short space of time. One of their greatest assets is the Infinite Shape Feature or ISF circuit (as it's otherwise known) that they developed themselves. With the ISF circuit, Blackstar managed to greatly increase the versatility of tube amplifiers without the use of digital technology. The new Artist 15 and Artist 30 models both have an ISF circuit fitted and can produce the typical American 6L6 sound, as well as beloved British AC clean and crunch.

Now however, the time is ripe for VOX to introduce another series that, rather than show another slow and steady improvement, offer something more like evolution accelerated. Meet the VT20X, the VT40X and the VT100X, the first three models from the new series.
