General
Blackstar has added the HT-20 MkII to its HT series. This 2-channel tube guitar amplifier combo is equipped with EL84 power amp tubes and a 12-inch speaker. It gives you British and American sounds and is perfect for use at home, at rehearsals or in the studio. If its 20 watts of power is a little too much, that can be easily switched to 2 watts at the push of a button. The control panel on the HT-20 combo has chickenhead knobs that make it easy to conjure up a wide range of tube-based sounds. Blackstar have even added a specially voiced, quality reverb to add an extra dimension to your sound.
HT-20R MkII: American or British?
With this Blackstar combo, you can switch between 2 channels with the help of the included footswitch. Each channel has its own switch to toggle the character of the sound according to your taste. The clean channel offers you a tight American sound, while the British one gives you a more responsive mid-range with looser-sounding low frequencies. The second channel gives you British crunching overdrive that can be pushed towards a more aggressive, rigid American sound with more resonant bass. The USB connector, balanced outputs with speaker simulation and patented ISF function give you plenty of options for using this amp in the studio or on stage.

Er zijn maar weinig amps die dezelfde mogelijkheden bieden als deze Blackstar dus heb ik de amp gehaald om deze uit te proberen en te zien of deze beviel. Ondertussen heb ik hem nu iets langer dan een maand in gebruik en ik ben er blij mee op veel vlakken! Klinkt goed, is divers en ziet er goed uit! Ik gebruik de amp met heel veel plezier en voor al m'n toepassingen doet hij het super :)
Positief:
+ Geluid is mooi vol en warm
+ Ook op kamervolume is de amp mooi en klinkt deze goed.
+ Aansluitingen zijn geweldig, zoveel opties - opnames klinken goed en voor optredens sluit ik de versterker ook op de PA aan.
+ Gitaar klinkt ook door de koptelefoon heel erg goed, beste koptelefoon aansluiting die ik heb gehoord
+ Handzaam en niet te zwaar
+ Kan redelijk goed meekomen bij repetities met akoestische drums
Negatief:
- Aansluitingen van de versterker zijn moeilijk bij te komen - je kan de kabels wel netjes wegwerken hierdoor maar je moet super onhandig onder de versterker hangen om iets in je versterker te prikken...
- Geen manier om Clean Channel aan te passen (geen EQ, treble, bass), dit is erg jammer want ik gebruik de amp met een pedalboard en ik zou graag meer controle over de toon willen hebben.
- Op hoge volumes vind ik de bas soms te aanwezig - waardoor de mids en highs meer wegvallen.
Overdrive klinkt ok maar dat doe ik liever met een pedaal. Is een kwestie van smaak.
Prima prijs/kwaliteit verhouding.
Le switch en 2W est très utile pour jouer à la maison.
La finition est plutôt bonne. Dommage qu'il n'y ait pas de housse vendue avec.
Positief:
+ Clean-kanaal
+ Divers pallet aan sounds met 2 kanalen met elk 2 voicings
+ Ingebouwde reverb
+ Goed geluid via de direct out
+ Relatief licht in gewicht
Negatief:
- Overdrive-kanalen oversturen veel, weinig mogelijkheid om dat terug te schroeven
- Design is niet persé opvallend
- Alleen 3-band EQ voor het overdrive-kanaal
