General

The Ashdown AGM-5C combo accurately mimics the distinctive sound of classic British amps. Its deliciously deep and full tone is given shape by a loaded 12-inch Celestion Creamback speaker and a JJ Electronics-designed ECC83s preamp tube. The AGM amp (or, Ashdown Guitar Magnifier) comes fitted with a comprehensive control panel including gain, bass, mid, and treble controls for dialing in your preferred sound before coating it in a little of the built-in reverb. A dedicated recording output is also provided for pure, clean and optimised signal transfer in the studio, and due to the thoughtful construction, any defective parts can be repaired quickly and easily replaced, giving this amp a considerable lifespan.

The Ashdown AGM-5C: Tube Sound Wherever, Whenever

With a capacity of 5 Watts at 16 Ohms, this amp is not exactly powerful but it does give you a tube-driven rehearsal mate, whether at home, in the rehearsal room, or even smaller gigs. Just to drive the message home, a subtle Stealth switch has also been included in the control panel that, when engaged, makes 5AM playing sessions a little bit more sociable. The fitted AUX input can be used to hook up your playback device of choice, so you can tighten up your playing with full backing tracks, and while the housing is made of plywood, this is a super-lightweight little amp.

The Blackstar Artist Series: Classic and Versatile

Monday 2 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

Blackstar has gone from a newcomer to an established name in a short space of time. One of their greatest assets is the Infinite Shape Feature or ISF circuit (as it's otherwise known) that they developed themselves. With the ISF circuit, Blackstar managed to greatly increase the versatility of tube amplifiers without the use of digital technology. The new Artist 15 and Artist 30 models both have an ISF circuit fitted and can produce the typical American 6L6 sound, as well as beloved British AC clean and crunch.

Wednesday 4 November 2015 By Richard | Bax Music

It's already been more than 10 years since VOX turned the amplifier world on its head with the Valvetronix series. Now however, the time is ripe for VOX to introduce another series that, rather than show another slow and steady improvement, offer something more like evolution accelerated. Meet the VT20X, the VT40X and the VT100X, the first three models from the new series.
