General
The Fender ESC-80 was specially designed to encourage beginner guitarists to keep playing. Its ¾ size makes it the perfect instrument for upcoming guitar heroes between seven and ten years old. The comfortable neck, delightfully clear sound and serious looks all contribute to this entry-level guitar’s appeal. This guitar features professional details that greatly benefit playability.
Construction
The top of the Fender ESC-80 is made of spruce, a type of wood that gives this instrument its sparkling sound. The sides and back of this guitar are made of agathis and nato. Its nato neck features an 18-fret rosewood fretboard.
Nato, like agathis, is an Asian wood type with similar properties as mahogany. Together with the rosewood fretboard, the nato and agathis add warm trebles to the sparkling sound of the spruce top. The guitar is beautifully finished with black bindings along the body and an elegant rosette.
Truss rod
A truss rod is a feature that isn’t often found on ¾-size entry-level guitars. The truss rod allows for professional neck adjustments and fine-tuning. After all, wood is a natural product that responds to changes in air humidity levels and temperature, causing the neck to warp. Thankfully, the truss rod of this Fender guitar allows you to counter unwanted warping. The Fender ESC-80 is an instrument that retains its excellent tone and playability, even after you’ve outgrown the ¾ size.

Ik noem mezelf geen gitarist, speel slechts een klein beetje akkoorden, maar weet wel waar ik op moet letten bij een aankoop (lezen, lezen, ..en ik heb eens twee slechte gitaren gehad die mijn zin in leren spelen verknalde!). En ik kan zeggen dat, buiten het uiterlijk van het showmodel, de warme klank van deze Fender mij persoonlijk het best beviel na ook een paar andere gitaren (o.a. Yamaha) in deze prijsklasse bij Bax Goes bekeken en bespeeld te hebben.
Ik heb vervolgens wel twee Fenders ESC 80 3/4 laten unboxen, want het showmodel wilde ik absoluut niet wegens een aantal kleine beschadigingen. Tja, het blijft 100 euro, en dat is wat mij betreft geen wisselgeld. De eerste die uit de doos gehaald werd, had vervolgens vol op de blanke body een zwarte vlek en viel daarom ook af (verkoper geërgerd, haha). De tweede uitgepakte gitaar zag er met gevlamd gekleurde hals heel leuk uit, en na even de afwerking en klank gecheckt te hebben besloot ik met onze dochtertje dat dit 'm werd.
Ondertussen heeft ze met veel plezier echt gitaarles en is nog steeds hartstikke blij met haar gitaar. Dus ondanks de toen narrige verkoper (hij had honger hoorde ik van zijn collega die hem verving, haha) toch 5 sterren.
