If you thought all harmonicas looked the same, think again. The Hohner CX-12 is definitely the odd one out. Its innovative design combines with a modern character and this can clearly heard in the timbre it shapes. The mouthpiece has been ingeniously and built into the housing for a seamles fit, making the CX-12 both air-tight and compact, while the rounded design offers amazing grip. Even the 12 holes are comfortably round so you slide the ergonomic mouthpiece between your lips with smooth ease. This particular model is tuned in G and offers a 3-octave range.
Durable Build & Zig-Zag Construction
Next to 1.05mm thick brass reeds, Hohner have used ABS to craft the comb of the CX-12. ABS is a hardened and extremely durable type of plastic that remains stable no matter the circumstances. Also, since being able to hit all the notes the harmonica can produce requires quite a bit of technique, this chromatic model features a completely silent zig-zag slide construction, meaning you easily can raise any note by a semi-tone, and you even get a hard-shell case with your CX-12 so you can keep it maximally protected when you take it with you to gigs, jam sessions or rehearsals.

The specialist German maker has a reputation for innovative musical instruments to uphold, and it's obvious that Hohner have spent all the time needed to properly design the CX-12. While this brilliant harmonica is already great in and of itself, we can't help but wonder what they'll come up with next!

Ik speel al een tijdje diatonische mondharmonica (Hohner Marineband Deluxe) en wilde mijn "gereedschap" uitbereiden met een Chromatische in G (voor 3rd position blues in A ;)
De keuze voor deze was gebaseerd op mijn goede ervaringen met Hohner in het algmeen en de lovende reviews oa op Youtube.
Het enige probleem dat er misschien zou kunnen zijn was het ietwat brede mondstuk..
Om met het laatste te beginnen: voor mij helemaal geen probleem. Ik heb bijna het gevoel dat de embouchure voor de CX-12 de zelfde (in-)spanning kost als bij de Marineband, een van de kleinere diatonische harmonicas.
Het geluid is ook aangenaam, inderdaat iets minder ruig dan de Marinebands maar met nog genoeg "body".
Even wennen aan de iets subtielere adem nodig om, met name in het lage register, een heldere (ventielvrije) toon te produceren en het instrument speelt verassend soepl.
Voor mij duidelijk dat de volgende chromatische ook weer een Hohner wordt en in geval van een 12-gaats zeer zeker een CX-12!
