Meinl CAJ5EB-M cajon with snare pedal, ebony

General

The CAJ5EB is a Meinl cajon with an ebony frontplate and a rubberwood body, with a snare pedal on the side. This hand percussion instrument is larger than many of Meinl's other cajons, which gives it more volume and bass. When you play this instrument, you will quickly hear the difference. Cajons are quickly gaining popularity, as more and more people discover the fact that it's an excellent instrument for accompanying other musicians during smaller-scale performances.

Playing with the snare pedal

As we mentioned before, this cajon has a snare pedal. That means that, unlike many other cajons, you won't have to open the body to adjust the tension of the snare wires. Instead, you can simply adjust the snare wires by moving the pedal with your foot. This engages and disengages the snare wires, allowing you to vary the pressure of the snares and changing the sound. Besides that, of course, you play this cajon like you would any other: by striking your hands (and your heels) against the frontplate. Furthermore, this cajon has a sizzle-effect which also creates a unique sound.

Protection and comfort

The tones you create exit the body through an opening in the back called the Sound Port Ring Underneath of the cajon you will find special rubber feet. These protect the bottom of the cajon from being damaged and prevent the sound from being distorted by direct contact with the ground. Finally, Meinl has not forgotten to keep you as comfortable as possible. On top of this cajon you will find a padded seating area, and all the edges and corners have been rounded off.
