The mellophone, is definitely an instrument for a marching band. The marching mellophone features a bell that faces to the front, as opposed to traditional mellophones with bells to the side or rear, and with such a front-facing bell, it's certainly easy to clip a lyre to the end of it! And if you're marching for longer periods of time with multiple pieces of music, you're probably going to need one.
