General

The Source Audio SA141 Soundblox Pro Multiwave Bass Distortion pedal has to be one of the most far-reaching and multifaceted bass-focussed pedals on the planet. Think thick, meaty distortion and fuzz that never messes with your low end, and since the distortion is applied and tweaked per frequency band, bassists retain the freedom to grab complex chords and intervals without losing any note definition, while a more classic distortion can be created by wetting up a single frequency band. Even before you get into any tweaking, the Soundblox Pro Multiwave provides a fat bank of different distortion types ranging from a mild overdrive, all the way up to extreme synth-style sounds, and when you do start tweaking, parameters can be adjusted via the control panel, or with nothing more than a hand gesture with the help of the unique Source Audio Hot Hand (not included).

The Soundblox Pro Multiwave Bass Distortion Pedal

Every option that the Multiwave Bass Distortion has to offer has been clearly and cleanly laid out across the raised face. The control pot planted in the middle selects your preferred shade of distortion, and there are 23 to choose from divided over Normal, Multiband, Octave, and Singleband sub-headings so you have good idea of what you're getting. Set the intensity of your selected distortion using the Drive pot, then adjust the influence of the EQ-section using the EQ Amount pot. The EQ section can also be independently switched and boasts a wide range that's able to accommodate five or even six-string model basses, the wet and dry blend is balanced via the Distortion Mix and Clean Mix pots, and once you've sculpted the perfect set of drive sounds, up to six of them can be saved and called up using one of the assignable footswitches. No matter how much fuzz or distortion you coat your signal with, as soon as this 9V-standard pedal is kicked out, the Active Analog Bypass circuit retains the natural character of your bass sound.

Source Audio

In 2005, Source Audio was set up by a solid team of engineers, scientists and former boffins of Analog Devices, Kurzwell Music Systems and Thomas H. Lee Partners. Backed up by more than 80 years of experience combined, the Source Audio project began. Since this company has just as much experience making analogue circuits as it does digital ones, this can be heard in every one of their pedals, each of which can be controlled via the unique Hot hand 3 Universal Wireless Effects Controller. The Hot Hand is a ring - as in, a ring that's placed on your finger - that functions as an expression pedal. This means that parameters like filter sweep, wet/dry mix or the gain of a distortion pedal can be adjusted by something as simple as a graceful hand gesture.
