General

The extensive and insanely durable MXR M80 Bass D.I.+ DI box is built for the hard-working bassist. The first thing it puts on your pedalboard is a truly solid and reliable gigging and recording DI that guarantees clean and clear bass. What's included in the fat deal, is a detailed 3-band equaliser for sculpting that necessary punch, a distortion channel for a raw and tasty, yet deep and defined tone, and an ever-useful noise-gate to suppress any unwanted noise, leaving a clean and refined signal. The result ranges from warm and transparent to brutally powerful.

Hooking Up & Powering the M80 Bass D.I.+

The M80 Bass D.I.+ provides a single input for your bass, and then three different output types. The first is a standard output that can be connected to your amplifier; the second is the direct XLR output for hooking up to the mixer or PA system; and the parallel output sends your dry signal directly out to say, your tuner. This handy little box, it can be powered by a standard 9V battery or power supply (not included).

The Effects

Hit the Effect footswitch, and both the EQ section and effects are activated, engaging the bass, mid, and treble settings. Hit the Distortion footswitch and deploy a deep-diving bomb of distortion that can be reined in using the Gain pot then mixed with the tone/effect section with the Blend pot, and any unruly noise can be immediately suppressed using the Trigger pot. The controls are really that simple, but the potential of this bassist's workhorse is as far-reaching as it can get.

NAMM 2016: Maintenance-Free Tape-Echo by Dunlop

Wednesday 20 January 2016 By Lizanne

Lots of guitarists out there would love to experiment with an old-school tape echo. You know, those warm, analogue 60s-70s delays, brought about by a tape recorder with all sorts of fascinating controls. Unfortunately, there are no free rides in this world. The price of a (secondhand) tape recorder, if you can find one, is often astronomical, not to mention the costs of the cartridges and maintenance. So, Dunlop launched the EP103 Echoplex.
