General

The Taurus Stomp-Head can be seen as a Polish bulldozer; here to pave the way for a new generation of guitar amplifiers. The Stomp-Head 4 from Taurus' Silver Line is a guitar amplifier that can be used as a head (on top of a cabinet) and as a stomp box. As it weighs only 3 kilos and comes in a rather compact housing, it is the perfect device for travelling guitarists who always want to have a perfect sound at their disposal. The Stomp-Head 4 has 70 watts of power (at 4 and 8 ohms) and still offers 50 watts to 16-ohm cabinets. Should you want to, you can reduce its power to 40 watts, which is great for at home or in the studio.

Stomp-Head 4: channels and controls

The Taurus is fitted with a tube preamp: two 12AX7s take care of the warmth and add distinct tube edge to the sound. The entire amplifier unit is a hybrid, reaping the benefit of tubes and transistors' combined power. It offers two channels: clean and lead. You can switch channels with the foot switches on the Stomp-Head 4 itself or via external foot switches. Additionally, you can also control the crunch and boost with a switch. This means that you can turn up the volume and activate the crunch while playing! You can control the bass, mid and treble for both channels. The clean channel has a knob to set the level of crunch and the lead channel has drive control.

Loudness reduction

The Stomp-Head 4 is equipped with a serial effects loop that allows you to use external effects pedals. Another notable feature is the special loudness circuit, which lets you reduce the volume tenfold, while keeping the power stage fully active. That means that you can enjoy the sound of an amp that's hard at work at home or in the studio, without having to endure the high volume levels. The line out allows for recording, with speaker emulation for added character. You can use the Stomp-Head to connect a wide range of cabinets, with an impedance between 4 to 16 ohms.

Taurus Stomp Head 4.SL guitar amplifier in stomp box housing
Wrote the following about Taurus Stomp Head 4.SL guitar amplifier in stomp box housing
I bought this because I gig a good deal and fed up humping my Marshall and Peavey 100w valve heads around. This stomp head is so light but at the same time very heavy - sound wise! EQ and drive are perfect for a full, fat valve sound with great sustain. I honestly can't fault it. Next gig is a festival in Portugal and I will be taking this beauty in my hand luggage.

My advise is, buy one!
