General

Instead of getting bigger, amp manufacturers seem to be focusing on making their amp heads smaller. There are handy lunchbox-size heads everywhere these days. Peavey's 6505 Piranha Micro Head boasts 20 watts of combined power, as this hybrid guitar amp head features a 12AX7 tube in the preamp and a transistor output, resulting in a lot of power and delicious tube gain. With its straightforward controls and a slew of handy connection options, including an effects loop, this amp is perfect for the guitarist on the go.

Sink your teeth into this

This compact lunchbox may not look too impressive, but just wait till you plug it in. With a combined speaker output of 16 ohms, it can easily handle a monster of a cabinet, plus it's capable of delivering an impressive 20 watts of power. You'll have that well-known high-gain Peavey sound which you can adjust to your liking using the Gain knob, and add some extra punch using the Crunch/Lead switch. When you turn the EQ rotary knob to the left, it becomes a mid-scoop, and when you open it up all the way, you get a fat, metal sound. The Piranha also features an FX loop so you can allow your effects to run through it, a unique function most lunchboxes don't have.

Like a fish in water

It may look little and cute, but trust us, this micro amp is no sweetheart. A 12AX7 tube is protected by a sculpted metal housing and gives off a warm red glow when activated. For practising at home, you can use the aux and headphone connectors, and it's especially handy in the studio thanks to its manageable size. In combination with Peavey's 6505 Guitar Subwoofer, it offers a balanced sound like nothing you've ever heard before. Our conclusion in any case, is that Peavey has produced one heck of a successful Micro Head.

Mijn signal chain: EQ pedaal in Wampler distortion in compressor in Boss Noise surpressor in de Peavey Piranha in mn Marshall 4x12cab. Dit klinkt vet aggro.
Geniaal apparaat dus.

NAMM 2016: Extra Small and Extra Low With Peavey's 6505 Series

Monday 25 January 2016

The Peavey 6505 series is widely acclaimed, but apparently the amp manufacturer still felt something was missing from the lineup. That's why they've added two new products to the range. One is called the Piranha Micro Head, a 20W hybrid top that can practically fit into your jacket pocket. The other is the Guitar Subwoofer, a cabinet with an 18" speaker and 300 watts of power to beef up the low end. Together, they're a great pair.
