General

You may know of ENGL's high-gain metal guitar amplifiers but their Retro Tube series offers amps with retro sounds and looks to match. ENGL's E765 Retro Tube 100 is a 2-channel tube guitar amplifier head with 100 Watts of power, giving you plenty of headroom. It delivers a warm, organic, retro sound from four EL34 tubes. Tweak the sound to perfection using the 3-band EQ, gain and volume controls on each channel. Channel 1 also has a bright function, while channel 2 has an extra tone control. The amp head comes with three front panels in black, red and yellow so you can customise its look.

ENGL E765 Retro Tube 100 Head: Versatile

Channel 1 offers warm, bright cleans with a deliciously dynamic edge when you open up the gain control. Classic overdrive with plenty of crunch can be found on channel 2. Either channel can be boosted, adding a light crunch to channel 1 and a creamy overdrive with bags of gain and sustain to channel 2. The E765 Retro Tube 100 also has a built-in, adjustable noise gate to regulate any interference or feedback when the gain boost is used on channel 2.

Practical extras

As we've come to expect from ENGL, this amp head has few practical extras on board. We've already mentioned channel 1's bright function that adds extra sparkle to the sound and channel 2's tone function that boosts the mids. In addition to those, there's a second master volume control on the back which can be activated using an optional footswitch like the ENGL Z-9 Custom, allowing you to adjust volume while you're playing. Using a footswitch also makes it possible to easily flip between channels and remotely control the FX loop. You could also use three ENGL Z-4 footswitches or the ENGL Z-11 MIDI Switcher.
