General
The PRX800W series by JBL just raised with this top-notch active speaker. It's the smallest active speaker in the PRX series and has a 12-inch woofer. Thanks to the unit's integrated Wi-Fi capability and the PRX Connect app, you can control and tweak the sound of the PRX812W wirelessly using your mobile device. With 1500 Watts of power from a Class-D amp, you can be sure this speaker can handle just about anything. It's up to you if you use it on a stand or as a monitor.
Intelligent speaker
Even though the PRX812W is the smallest model in the series, it's equipped with two JBL-produced speakers (a 12-inch woofer and a 1.5-inch tweeter) that can produce from 50.3 Hz to 20 kHz, depending on usage (see specifications). There are two types of connections that enable all kinds of possibilities. What's more, the app allows you to adjust the sound to perfection. Thanks to a DBX Type IV limiter circuit, this speaker won't exceed its limitations, and the fan only activates when necessary, which means this speaker is extremely quiet. When combined with a sub from the same series, the PRX812W makes a perfect line-array thanks to the dual stand flange and 12 M10 rigging points.

We gebruiken deze set als opvolging van de EON 615's voor ons theater. Zie mijn review bij deze EON's. Deze PRX 800 set met sub is wél een duidelijke upgrade! We maken veel gebruik van onze draadloze headset (Countryman E6 omni met Sennheiser EW300). Verder een scala aan muziekfragmenten en geluidseffecten. Alles klinkt erg goed en mooi uitgebalanceerd over het hele spectrum. De sub geeft een stevig fundament onderin.
Het grondruisniveau van deze speaker is minimaal (aanwezig direct na aanschakelen) tot ongeveer 75 % van het vermogen. Hoger draaien levert wel een hoger ruisniveau op. Aangezien wij niet op heel hoge volumes draaien is het voor ons geen probleem. De EON 615's die we eerst hadden ruisen ook, en dat hoor je niet in een zaal met publiek. Is voor ons geen probleem en zeker geen 'dealbreaker'.
Samengevat in mijn persoonlijke optiek:
Pluspunten:
*aangename en mooi uitgebalanceerde sound, ook in het hoog (zeker na bescheiden correcties).
*goed handelbaar qua gewicht.
Nadelen:
*wat hoger ruisniveau bij volumes bóven de 75%.
Opmerking: merkwaardig genoeg wordt deze luidspreker geleverd met de equalizer in het hoog aangeschakeld! Dus eerst de equalizer uitzetten met de wifi app, anders klinkt het best wel dof.
