General
JDK Audio's V12 is a modular single-channel compressor, equipped with API's compression circuitry as well as the Thrust circuit. The latter applies a high-pass filter before the signal reaches the compressor, giving you control over the dynamics without compromising the punchy lows. The V12 compressor allows you to monitor your audio signal by means of LED indicators that represent the gain reduction or the input and output level. Combine it with the V10 mic preamp and the V14 EQ for optimal results.
JDK V12 compressor
On the front panel of this modular compressor you'll find potentiometers that control threshold, ratio and gain, as well as switches for soft/hard knee, bypass, Thrust and link. Remarkably, there are no controls for attack and release, as the V12 features an automatic timing circuit that adjusts the attack and release characteristics to match the audio signal. The result is a pleasant compression without the annoying clicks and pops associated with high attack speeds and super-fast release times.
The benefits of the API-500 Lunchbox format
The Lunchbox format - a modular system that allows you to select high-grade peripherals and combine them in a practical-sized rack - was introduced by API Audio. No wonder this format is also referred to as API-500. One of the main benefits of the API Lunchbox format is that you don't need to power each separate module individually, allowing you to save some money. And what's more, as you get to select each module yourself, you can create a setup that perfectly suits your needs. The modular system is ideal for mobile applications - if you're working in a different studio, it's easy to bring your favourite peripherals.
