General

Musicians who want to create unique sounds and experiment endlessly will get nothing but joy from the Modal Electronics ARGON8. This wavetable synthesizer offers 8-part polyphony and contains a high-quality FATAR TP9 keyboard with 37 full-size, touch-sensitive keys with aftertouch. You get access to no fewer than 120 wave tables, divided into five sets over 24 benches, allowing you to opt for traditional virtual analogue sounds or modern EDM sounds. Many of the models are taken directly from the Modal Electronics 002, so you know you you're going to get excellent sound quality. Thanks to a subtly designed steel and aluminum housing, this compact synth will stylishly lift the look of your home studio.

The ARGON8: A musical trip

The addition of a 1.54 inch OLED display makes the Modal Electronics ARGON8 effortless to navigate. With 32 hi-res wave table oscillators (4 per voice) and eight types of modifiers, you get a huge range of possible sounds under your command. You can use the assignable joystick to add extra expression to your game and three envelope generators (AMP, MOD and FILTER) that you can use completely independently or simultaneously, will only push it further. With the three independent stereo effect engines you can also add intensely powerful effects such as delay, reverb, flanger, phaser and chorus.

Sequencer and arpeggiator

Other practical additions to the ARGON 8 are the built-in sequencer and arpeggiator. With the 512 step real time sequencer you can spit out impressive soundscapes in little time. The programmable 32 step arpeggiator can generate up to 2048 steps before a repeat occurs and with 300 factory presets, even less experienced synthesizer aficionados can get started immediately. 200 user slots are available to store your own creations and a nice bonus is that you can easily download new patches using the free MODALapp for Mac, PC, iOS and Android.

In 1 woord; Kwaliteit

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
