General

Brass instruments aren't losing popularity, and in the last decade they've gotten a much more prominent role in action film soundtracks. It's not surprising then than many people want to play a brass instrument! Yamaha is on top of it with a large assortment of trombones including even the rare tenor-bass trombone--maybe you even have one yourself! It's just that, well, maybe your housemates aren't such fans of the, shall we say, "broad dynamic range" of your brass instrument. Let's face it, brass instruments might be cool, but they're definitely not quiet. That's OK though! Your solution is the Yamaha SB5X Silent Brass for tenor trombone and tenor-bass trombone.

Characteristics of the SB5X

In theory this product is much like a mute, so it makes sense that Yamaha lovingly refers to it as a Pickup Mute. This mute does the Silent Brass name justice, because very little of the original sound of the instrument gets out! It's definitely an interesting experience, but maybe you're wondering how you can benefit from a silent instrument. Don't worry, because you get a little box to connect your Pickup Mute, and that's where the magic happens. This little box is a sort of sound generator that rebuilds the brass sound based on the original airstream that goes into the mute. All you have to do is put on your headphones and the only one who will hear your trombone is you!

Play along

Needless to say, this is an excellent practise accessory, and we know your housemates will agree. The box that contains the modelling system has an AUX input (3.5mm jack) so you can connect an MP3 player and play along with your favourite tunes! Handy and fun, no? You could also use it more practically to play along with your ensemble or to practise with backing tracks. Additionally, you have the option of adjusting the reverb which in turn affects the overall ambience of the sound reproduction. As if the product wasn't enough fun on its own, the happiness that you'll create not only for your housemates but for your ensemble and even yourself makes investing in the SB5X more than worth it!

Yamaha SB5X Silent Brass for tenor trombone and tenor-bass trombone
Wrote the following about Yamaha SB5X Silent Brass for tenor trombone and tenor-bass trombone
Zeer tevreden mee!
