Fazley FPB218SB-FR Fretless Electric Bass Guitar (Sunburst)
Wrote the following about Fazley FPB218SB-FR Fretless Electric Bass Guitar (Sunburst)
I’ve had a few fretless basses over the years. Some very expensive ones like Fender Jazz and some cheap ones but I’ve never really stuck with them due to either sounding not so hot or just the playing of them has never done anything for me.
I’m very impressed with this one. The sound is very impressive and also it has literally the best intonation of any fretless I’ve tried. Most others I had to improvise the tuning as they either had to be adjusted to play open notes in tune or used out of tune on each string in order to get a happy medium when playing across the frets. Not so with this one, it plays properly all round as it’s been set up out of the box.

Obviously I changed the strings to flatwounds as the supplied round wounds would have eaten straight into the fretboard.

Overall I’m very happy with it and it has become my choice of bass for almost all situations these days as the ability to alter different sounds is very versatile.

I bought this purely as a practice instrument to save wear and tear on my much more expensive custom fretless. I have gone on to record with it, so that says something i guess. For the price there is nothing to touch this it. That said some fettling made it even better than the straight out of box setup (which was pretty good, very playable). There isnt anything i'd change due to the budget nature of the bass, but have used a few spare parts i had laying around to modify it anyway. The bones of the bass are just great, nice sunburst, thick slab of 'blackwood' for the fretboard, which wears very well even with roundwound strings. I knocked the neck finish back with wire wool to suit my tastes. I have owned it now for 5 months and nothing has broken, warped or in any way made it a pain to own. So would highly recommend, and a great modding platform if the fancy takes you. Would happily take it to a gig as it stays in tune and stable in different environments.

It takes a skilled player to use a fretless you would think. Truth is that if you play an upright double or a fretted electric bass you CAN play a fretless electric bass. For all the hesitance you might not enjoy when reviewing and comparing less expensive bass guitars, and fretless basses at that... this bass is very affordable to those looking to buy a bass guitar, it is fretless, you can play fretless with enough practice on any other style of bass or with this style. It sounds great. You can achieve the Jaco Pastorius sounds with the correct volume and tone settings using this guitar and as for it's aesthetic value. It looks beautiful aswell. Just like JP's. Except you get the added value of a smooth solid fret board, not a chipped and epoxyed DIY job. Some say price goes with it's territory or you get what you pay for. The value of this guitar, although not endowed with a fender jazz bass logo... is really second to none. I honestly couldn't be happier. The only way I'd feel bad about buying one already... is if I had to buy myself another in place of the one I have. But it's solid. It's weight and length is perfect and it is solid. I'd recommend buying some rotosound swing strings (45-100/ or 45-105's) just as a backup or for a more crunchy, ringing harmonic sound (although if you're a beginner harmonics are abit of a special skill) This guitar is capable of it all... you can play it straight from the box. There is no feedback distortion, and... the crunch on an overdriven setting is phenomenal. Believe me, this is a bargain of a bassists lifetime, unless you're given some guilded bass and completely hand luthiered 'using John Paul Jones's own pickups' other branded, for free. Which isn't likely for me. I am a bassist. I'd happily play this. For 89 pounds I see no reason to hang out for another miracle if Fretless is your style, or, this style you want from a bass, and, you can afford/want to buy one. Ultimately, in short 10/10 (I did leave a review but thought I might get the 1000 pound credit to continue building my studio if I registered...? It's all true though. If you can't git' this, you may find another more suitable. There are better basses... But for a budget, you can get no better. Especially if you're experienced...) - Jamó(s)

Fazely Bass Guitar. I bought this Bass because it was fretless and because it has no Fret markings but it does have white dots on the facing neck edge which I prefer as an experienced Bass Player. The bass is on the heavy side but not too heavy.

The finish is excellent with no rough edges ,the pick ups are effective although both share a tone, it is simple to get a good sound. The neck is smooth and well balanced and for a bass at this price range its unbeatable and is a similar size to my Fender Jazz. I like the P Bass look of it and I would recommend this to anyone who likes the Fretless Bass.
