Monday 18 January 2016 by Lizanne | |
Amp manufacturer Mesa Boogie has been Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci's main brand for years. After thirty years, these two greats have finally teamed up to develop a signature model, the JP-2C tube amp head. The happy occasion is being commemorated by an attractive Limited Edition and an unlimited, but no less pleasing to behold, Standard version. Allow us to introduce you to the shredder's new best friend. The best of the bestFor this Limited Edition head, Mesa Boogie used only the very best components. It has a Private Reserve Flame Maple front panel in Custom Oxblood Stain finish, framed by andonised Gun Metal Grey aluminium and adorned with chic mother-of-pearl details. But the real beauty of these heads lies beneath the surface. Both versions are based on the Mark IIC+ and house the same five 12AX7 preamp tubes and four 6L6 output tubes. Depending on your gear, you can connect a 16-ohm, an 8-ohm, or two 4-ohm cabinets, and the wattage can be reduced from 100 to 60 watts.
Mesa Boogie JP-2C John Petrucci Signature: so much to choose fromThe JP-2C features three channels that you can tweak to perfection using two graphic 5-band EQs. A new-and-improved Mesa MIDI foot pedal allows you to either switch between tone controls or directly adjust your reverb or shred options. This head is a great candidate for use in the studio as well, as its CabClone DI input XLR speaker simulator provides emulations of different types of cabinet sounds. What's more, it has a MIDI in and output so you can easily hook up your effects chain, or even use the headphone input, for which your neighbours will surely thank you.
