General

The Full-Drive 2 delivers that familiar, JRC4558-opamp-based mid-range focused overdrive and provides a pair of drive controls to steer it. The rest of the components, including the condenser, are just as superior as the drive chip, so you're always totally assured of that Fulltone-grade sound quality. This refined stompbox can, of course, be powered by a standard 9V power supply, but by feeding it with an 18V power supply, you're greeted by the full-fat sound and generous headroom this pedal was really built for. However you power it, the true bypass circuit ensures clean and uncoloured signal whenever the Full-Drive2 is toggled off.

The Full-Drive2 V2: Two Volume Pots and 6 Clip Flavours

Since this is the second edition, Fulltone have added more detailed control over both settings in the form of a second volume control pot. Besides the standard, yet more than satisfying overdrive, you also get a selection of five extra clipping modes. So, for more flattened mid-frequencies, you can shift into FM. To boost the high-end and filter out some of the low-end, shift into the Wide setting, and for a thick overdrive with some light asymmetrical clipping, shift into Vintage mode. HC mode tightens up the bass and reduces the drive a touch, and to finish, VIN mode flips the Full-Drive2 into a less-then-subtle, nineties-style warmth. Fulltone really have managed to carefully cram in something for everyone.
