Shure GLX-D+ Dual Band: Always a Free Microphone Frequency
Published on Friday 17 March 2023
While removing cables from the setup gives you freedom to move around the stage, life isn’t made easy for wireless microphone users. With mobile internet and other wireless traffic only getting busier and busier, there’s little room left in the ether for wireless microphones. To solve this issue, Shure has developed an impressive, all-new system: the Shure GLX-D+ Dual Band Series. This smart wireless system operates over the 2.4GHZ and 5.8GHz frequency band while continuously selecting the best frequency available. The system covers handheld microphones, microphone headsets, clip-on microphones and even wireless guitar systems, setting up any live performer with interference free sound and plenty of room to move.

Always a Free Frequency
The Shure GLX-D+ Dual band system uses two licence-free frequency bands: the 2.4 GHz band and the 5.8 GHz band. These frequencies cannot only be used worldwide without the need for a permit, but are far removed from mobile phone frequencies, keeping the signal transfer clean and clear. As soon as you’ve paired your wireless transmitter with your receiver, you won’t need to check the receiver again, since the GLX-D+ system will constantly monitor any wireless traffic in your area for you. If any potentially jamming signals appear, then the system will immediately switch over to a different frequency without you even noticing that anything has happened. It’s basically like having a magic and invisible sound engineer at your service.
The GLXD1+ Bodypack: Headsets & Clip-On Microphones
Using the GLXD1+ bodypack, microphone headsets and clip-on wireless microphones can be easily integrated into your GLX-D+ system. The bodypack comes wrapped in a near-indestructible metal housing and features an SB904 Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that delivers up to 12 hours of performance on a full charge.
Example: the GLXD14+/93 system, including a GLXD1+ bodypack, a GLXD4+ receiver and a WL93 clip-on microphone
GLXD2+ Wireless Handheld Microphones
The GLXD2+ wireless handheld transmitter is compatible with a range of different microphone capsules. To start, you have the GLXD2+/SM58 transmitter which comes fitted with a legendary SM58 dynamic microphone capsule, giving the model an immediately warm and familiar, character-packed sound. If you’re seeking a more modern vocal sound, then the GLXD2+/B58A transmitter might be a better choice. This model comes fitted with a Beta58A microphone capsule, which has a more fresh vocal sound. For the more discerning user, there’s also a condenser version available: the GLXD2+/B87A, which comes fitted with a Beta87A condenser microphone capsule that’s able to capture sound in greater detail than more common dynamic microphones.

The GLX-D+ Receiver
The Shure GLX-D+ Dual Band Series includes a receiver to match every possible situation. The compact GLXD4+ tabletop receiver is the ideal solution for solo performers and fitness instructors, features clear, self-explanatory controls, and since the charging bay has been fitted on the front panel, there’s no need to mess around with an external charger for the SB904 rechargeable battery of your transmitter.
If you’re planning to set up multiple GLX-D+ systems at the same time, then you’ll need to use a few GLXD4R+ receivers, which ensure interference-free operation and can be neatly mounted in any standard 19 inch rack.
For guitarists and bassists that need to use multiple receivers at the same time, there’s the GLXD6+ receiver, which has all the same functions as the GLXD4+, but comes in the form of a standard effect pedal, so it can be slotted on a pedalboard, and as a nice bonus, it even features a built-in tuner.
The GLXD6+ receiver is specifically designed for guitarists
Expand Your System with the GLXD+FM Frequency Manager
Even if you’re working with a growing rig, there’s no need to worry about any limitations when it comes to expanding the GLX-D+ system. By adding the GLXD+FM Frequency Manager, six receivers can be connected to two antennas and powered at the same time. Up to three GLXD+FM Frequency Managers can be cascaded, so as long as the conditions are ideal, you can theoretically use up to eighteen GLD-D+ systems at the same time.
Using the GLXD+FM up to six GLXD4R+ receivers can be linked to result in reliable multi-channel performance
