This unit kits out beginner bassists with a surprisingly fat stack of seventy effects as well as a looper, a drum machine, a tuner and an expression pedal - all in return for a more-than-modest investment. Meet the Zoom B1X multi-effect processor. Tilt the expression pedal on the right to tweak the volume, pitch or wah effect in real time while you play; set up a beat and play along to tighten up your timing; and record loops and layer them to create your own original tracks. This bass-focussed mega-tool even features an auto-save function, and when combined with the free Zoom Guitar Lab software, can be customised in detail. On top of all of that, it even provides a built-in tuner.

En wat ik heel fijn vond was dat er een ingebouwde tuner op zat en je dus niet de mensen waarmee je oefent stil hoeft te laten zijn maar gewoon kan tunen terwijl de rest speelt
Voor diegenen die weer LP's draaien en/of zweren bij analoge pedaaltjes: niet aanschaffen! Voor alle andere muzikanten - het aantal effecten dat je kunt kiezen, configureren en combineren is oneindig (bijna, dan). Het is mogelijk om per nummer dat je uitvoert een favoriete combinatie te maken en op te slaan in één van de 50 voorkeuzeslots.
Aangezien ik geen Windows of MacOS gebruik, maar vertrouw op Linux, was ik even bang dat ik de Zoom B1X niet op mijn computer zou kunnen aansluiten. De bijbehorende software Zoom Guitar Lab is namelijk alleen voor Windows en MacOS beschikbaar. Na enig zoekwerk blijkt er een zeer goed functionerend alternatief te zijn voor alle besturingsssystemen, waaronder Linux en Android (ik vermoed voor ChromeOS). Dit programma heet ToneLib en valt te downloaden via http://tonelib.net. Uiteraard zijn er verschillende filmpjes op YouTube te vinden over de verschillen tussen Guitar Lab en ToneLib. Hieruit komt ToneLib niet slecht uit de bus. Ik kan daar zelf niet over oordelen, daar ik Guitar Lab niet kan gebruiken.
Met behulp van een micro USB kabeltje van de HEMA (€7) is de Zoom B1X aan te sluiten op computer én op een willekeurige USB adapter of powerbank voor stroomvoorziening. Het werkt allemaal erg soepel.
Werking: het (mono) geluid van je bas wordt eerst via ADC gesampled naar een frequentie van 44,1kHz met een bitdiepte van 24. Daarna worden digitaal je gekozen effecten toegepast, waarna het digitale resultaat weer middels een DAC geconverteerd wordt naar (stereo) analoog geluid voor je koptelefoon of versterker.
Een aanrader, ik kan niet anders concluderen.
Wat ik wel fijn vind dat er ook een tuner op zit.
